Post One

My name is Liam Ossenfort and I am a Junior studying Computer Engineering. I have always had a passion and respect for Architecture, so I thought with my current studies and interests in Architecture that this was a perfect class for me (even wit my minimal Architecture experience)

I chose to take this course with the expectations of gaining more knowledge on how technology is incorporated in today's modern Architecture, and how it has evolved. With technology getting increasingly more sophisticated I wanted to get involved before it becomes too complex to become involved.

One of my suggested search tags for the Evernote assignment being "sociology," I came across an article titled "Despite the headline this is an interesting article about the claims and counter-claims addressing the future of AI." This article discussed the potential harm of AI in the relatively near future. I was surprised to see a comment on the issue from both Bill Gates and Elon Musk, two highly respected individuals in the technology field. Gates declared that within a few decades the intelligence will be strong enough to be a concern. And Musk commented "We should be very careful about artificial intelligence. If I were to guess what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that… Increasingly, scientists think there should be some regulatory oversight maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish." The fact that engineers of this caliber have raised concerns about the future leads me to believe that there is a potential threat in the technology we create.

My definition of an Intelligent Building is that of a structure that utilizes various emerging technologies to aid the functionality of said structure.
