I have very little experience when it comes to intelligent buildings. I have no experience with BIM or the use of databases. My interests lie mostly in the physical construction of buildings. Thus, I seek to deeper my understanding of how technology will likely affect the construction industry in the years to come.
My personal definition of an intelligent building is one that is designed in such a way as to incorporate technology in order to improve the building process during construction, occupation, and as the building is being decommissioned.
The Evernote article that I read which I found the most interesting had to do with the three dimensional printing of small conical buildings out of proprietary basalt material that could potentially be manufactured on the surface of Mars. This article ticked my fancy because I enjoy learning about both construction and space. Currently, the company pursuing this research has plans to print a few dozen of these structures on earth in order to combat homelessness in central america and San Francisco. these plans represent phase two of the development of this technology, phase one, which has been completed consisted of a single prototype structure constructed just to prove the feasibility of the practice.
